A beautiful, modern and vibrant spin on the Les Paul design, this left-handed Gibson Les Paul Faded in Worn Bourbon is their iconic instrument down to it’s very soul!
This 2018 offering was made in the Gibson factory in Nashville, USA and saw the unmistakable Les Paul Faded return with the same iconic look, feel and tone that has made it THE choice for countless guitarists. It is simplistic and stripped back with the iconic Les Paul shape but with an ultra-modern, weight relieved body.
This guitar is in fantastic used condition, with only a couple of cosmetic signs of use (see photos). It also comes with a deluxe padded Gibson gigbag, a brand new Gibson strap, an unused Gibson microfibre cloth, the original Gibson tools, the selector switch surround, all original warranty (unused) and factory paperwork, authenticity certificate and a photo of the actual guitar on a workbench after being built in the Gibson factory in Nashville.
Body & Neck
The body is comprised of mahogany and A-grade plain maple, but with Gibson’s ultra-modern weight relief. You’re getting a combination of top-end clarity, the warm resonance you’d expect from traditional mahogany Les Pauls, but in a more practical lightweight package. The worn bourbon finish adds a smokey touch of rustic character to this 2018 model.
For the neck, you’ll notice that the Classic is a dream to play thanks to a slim-taper profile and its velvety-smooth rosewood fretboard. The use of mahogany in both the neck and the body is what gives these guitars their famed neverending sustain – every note sings like you wouldn’t believe!
Pickups & Electronics
The PAF formula helped put Gibson on the map back in the day, giving players a full-bodied sound they’d never have imagined. The Faded is loaded with pickups that owe the essence of their sound to the PAF’s ground-breaking design.
In the neck position, you’ve got a 490R Modern Classic that gives you a typically fat sound but with a hotter top-end friendly response. In the bridge you have a 490T; the T stands for treble, so as you may have guessed, the aim here is to compliment both the brightness of the maple and the richness of the mahogany, but with loads of extra crispy overtones!
The pickups are left exposed to the elements, so you’ll attain a rough-around-the-edges tone that matches the faded finish perfectly. Combined with black speed knobs, vintage-style keystone tuners and aluminium hardware, this guitar packs all the punch of a brand new Gibson whilst oozing weathered soul!
Here’s what Gibson say about the 2018 Les Paul Faded
The Les Paul Faded guitar fully embodies the celebrated Les Paul feel and tone in a spirited, worn finish. The mahogany body and maple top complement a pair of genuine PAF-inspired humbucking pickups to deliver the impressive power and sustain made famous by legendary Les Paul guitars.
The Les Paul Faded is also extremely comfortable to play thanks to the innovative Ultra-Modern weight relief and Slim Taper neck.
The Les Paul Faded’s body and neck are forged from solid mahogany and feature an eye-catching beautiful maple top. The 2018 Faded retains that signature Les Paul tone and resonance but thanks to Gibson’s innovative ultra-modern weight relief, this guitar is extremely light and portable. Straight out of its case we were taken by surprise at just how light this guitar feels. The early Les Pauls reputation of being a heavy model is seemingly now a thing of the past.
The Les Paul Faded’s neck has a slim-taper profile and joyously smooth rosewood fretboard that feels instantly natural and workable with your hand, whether commanding rhythmic leads up top or shredding notes at the business end, it has a fantastic level of playability.
Furthermore, the Faded has received Gibson’s PLEK processing treatment giving it a string action of unparalleled precision. Playability is greatly optimised and intonation problems eliminated in the 2018 Les Paul Faded ensuring that your guitar is perfectly adjusted and ready to play immediately.
The inspiring history of the Les Paul is brought to life in the 2018 Faded thanks to its PAF (Patent Applied For) inspired humbucking pickups. At the neck, the Faded is fitted with a 490R Modern Classic that delivers a smooth vintage-inspired voice, but with added clarity and mid-range clout. Down at the bridge, the Faded’s 490T pickup works in perfect unison with the maple and mahogany to provide a bright sound with plenty of overtones.
Hardware found on the 2018 Les Paul Faded is robust and functional whilst stylistically complimenting the shape and finish of the guitar. The Faded’s black headstock features the classic gold Gibson script and Les Paul model logos, lined with vintage style keystones that add to the guitar’s vintage aesthetic. On the main body, the revered Gibson aluminium Tune-O-Matic bridge is paired with an aluminium stop bar, the classic angular black pickguard and black top hat control knobs sit beautifully on top of both the worn cherry and worn bourbon finishes
